Building a wall without cement – it is possible, but the stones have to fit together very closely.
Suddenly I had a thing against cement, or any kind of musical bindery: transitional phrases, transitional modulations… I wondered, what if I made a piece without glue?
This led me to an endless shifting of stones, and a lot of filing and fitting.
Finally, the work looks most like the map of a city district; a lot of diversity and change, and clear partitions between old and new.
It reminds me of a piano-player somehow, speeding up and playing to much notes in too little time.

The title means ‘it happened by accident on a small square’.
It should be a fun and challenging piece to play, with references to the Haagse School (where I studied) and Bach’s organ-passacaille.
